Alicia Villarreal

'Alicia María Villarreal Mesa is a visual artist, born in Santiago, Chile, in December 1957. She has studied Painting at the Catholic University of Chile, Art at the L'Ecole de Recherche Graphique in Brussels, Belgium, and a Diploma in Social Communication Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. This experience shaped her work, providing a reflective dimension on personal and collective memory and on the language and means of artistic production, issues that she has continued to address ever since. Since 1989 she has lived and worked in Santiago, where she also teaches.'*

Villareal took part in Procreation Postcreation - A Womanifesto Art Project (2003), where she exhibited a work titled The Imaginary School.
